The Southern Cross

The oldest English-language paper in Argentina was founded in 1875 to serve Irish immigrants who came to stay, whose descendants spent five generations becoming indistinguishably Argentine. Its journalism centers the Irish-Argentine community's cultural memory, identity, and faith traditions, with a loyalist register that assumes readers already know why the distinction matters. A niche built for a diaspora that no longer formally exists keeps publishing for the community that replaced it.
