## About

The cable network that lost its famous last name ended up with more viewers than CNN, the rival it spent decades being compared with. MS NOW builds its evenings around opinion hosts dissecting the Trump administration, and the tempo is argument first, headline second. The new name promises news, opinion and the world; the primetime schedule makes clear which of the three gets the best seats.

## Profile

- **Ownership:** Versant Media Group (Nasdaq: VSNT), spun off from Comcast in January 2026; formerly part of NBCUniversal and operated as MSNBC
- **Funding:** Advertising and cable/satellite carriage fees
- **Focus areas:** US politics and the Trump administration, elections, law and justice, national and international news, opinion and analysis programming

## What the position means

TOLD classifies what an outlet publishes over time, based on ownership, funding
and focus. It describes a pattern; it is not a rating of quality and not a
ranking. Nothing in TOLD sorts, hides or promotes a source by its position.
State-aligned and partisan outlets are in the catalogue on purpose, labelled.

## Assessment note

Latest assessment: 2026-10-15. Generated with TOLD Source Prompt Brief v1.2.7. TOLD summarizes framing patterns and third-party classifications; it does not assess factual accuracy, intent, or legitimacy. External classifications: 11 (3 themes).
