# Cookies and data — what TOLD stores

TOLD sets no advertising or tracking cookies. This page lists what the site
stores on your device. The choice can be changed at any time on
https://told.news/cookies

## Two entries in local storage

Neither leaves the device, and neither says anything about who the reader is.

- `told_cookie_consent` — the cookie choice, so TOLD does not ask again.
- `told-theme` — the dark or light mode setting.

Some features cache public data locally (the weather strip, for example) so the
site does not refetch it on every visit. Clearing the browser's site data removes
all of it.

## Analytics

Two services: Vercel Analytics and Umami. Both count page views anonymously. No
tracking cookies, no profiles, no ads. They run by default; neither sets a
cookie, stores anything in the browser, or can tell who the reader is. If the
reader declines, both stop and nothing is counted.

## Third parties

Source logos come from Google's favicon service, weather data from Open-Meteo,
and map tiles from OpenStreetMap when the weather map is opened. As with any web
request, those servers see the reader's IP address. TOLD sends them nothing else.
