# AI Act — where TOLD uses AI

TOLD uses AI systems. In accordance with the EU Artificial Intelligence Act
(2024/1689), Article 50, this page discloses where and how.

## Some text is written by AI, not a human

The following text on TOLD is written by an AI system (Claude Haiku), not by a
human:

- Story titles and short summaries in Most covered
- The context sentence and the divergence line in Most covered
- Headlines and closing summaries for Breaking stories
- Summaries of the topics in Followed daily
- Suggested Google searches for Most covered and Breaking stories
- English translations of some headlines published in other languages

Headlines and summaries written by AI begin with the mark "TQ:".

All such text is grounded in headlines from the sources TOLD collects. No human
editor reviews it before publication.

## AI also groups stories

An AI system is also used to group articles about the same event, and to
determine whether sources name an event differently. The system writes no text in
these cases: it answers yes or no. The sentences shown are pre-written.

## Every number is counted, not generated

All figures on TOLD — source counts, regions, timestamps, word frequencies — are
computed from collected coverage. No value is generated by an AI system.
